Audy-Marchessault and Zuccarello Headed to AHL All-Star Classic via Connecticut Whale

Audy-Marchessault ranks second on the Whale club in points and goals, and tied for second among AHL rookies in points, with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 34 games.  A 21-year-old native of Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Audy-Marchessault signed an AHL contract with the Whale June 23, 2011, after a four-year career with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, in which the 5-9, 175-pounder totaled 98 goals and 141 assists for 239 points in 254 games.

Andre Deveaux and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault both tallied a goal and an assist for Connecticut, who fell in their fourth straight overall (0-2-1-1). Audy-Marchessault made a nice keep-in of the puck at the blue line before passing to Kris Newbury, who in turn fed an open Deveaux in the slot. Audy-Marchessault tied the game at two for Connecticut at the 4:04 mark, as the Whale power-play came through once more. Deveaux’s board work in back of the Falcons’ net allowed Audy-Marchessault to sneak into position and fire a shot past Legace for his 14th of the season.

All-Star rookie right wing Jonathan Audy-Marchessault then scored on a one-timer at the end of a 5-on-3 power play off Kris Newbury’s brilliant diagonal pass through the slot at 6:39. “That’s the second time in three games we allowed a comeback like that and lost some big points,” Audy-Marchessault said. “We, even myself, have to stay more disciplined with penalties and have better battles along the wall, chipping pucks. I don’t think we let up with the 4-2 lead, and then I got the bad penalty and they got the best of it. Then we got unlucky with bad ice and the puck jumped and St. Pierre just put it in. It was lucky, but we can’t find excuses. We’ve got to find solutions.

Big Crowd Sees Whale Eke out Tight Win over Albany via Connecticut Whale

The Whale took a quick 1-0 lead on their first power play as Newbury made a nifty diagonal pass to the left circle to Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, whose centering pass was deflected past Kinkaid by Deveaux. The Whale made it 3-0 on their third power play, as Newbury centered into the high slot to Audy-Marchessault, whose 30-foot shot was deflected in by Deveaux. The Whale had been outshot 16-9 to that point but led by three goals thanks to Talbot and the line of Deveaux, Newbury and Audy-Marchessault, who was celebrating his 21st birthday.

Whale Return from Holiday Break via Connecticut Whale

With Mitchell and Hagelin on recall and Zuccarello injured, rookie forward Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, who turns 21 on Tuesday, has taken over the team scoring lead with 10 goals and 15 assists, followed by Newbury (9, 13), right wing Andre Deveaux (7, 9) and Bell (5, 10).
